course. nick: it's the famous sunny dale sausage sandy ych denver sandwich. peter: considering how important this tee shot is would you rather play first or second? nick: i think one, first, would be nice. and so -- as i alluded before that second bunker -- well, that last bunker is right in range for ernie. jim: made a beautiful tee shot in regulation. third longest of the day. nick: you have to believe that, you know, experience and everything. ernie may get the little nod on this as the favorite. not by much. you know, in a playoff, who can tell? peter: the wind has died down from when he played this hole in regulation. perhaps that bunker is not going to be in play.

jim: watching it for a long time. nick: hang on. hang on. how about that? peter: it's perfect. nick: yeah, slight upslope. that was a lovely free swing. we'll be counting the waggles on this one for fun. i'm going over 10. jim: and these don't count, these practice swings. nick: no, they don't. the ones prior to getting the club on the ball do count, which is usually two. so one -- two. and off we go. likes it. loves it. peter: he's on a very good line

as well. nick: and he'll be playing first. jim: ernie has driven it past him so off they go.

former president george h.w. bush, among others. peter: it's a weird angle. ernie only has one yard less, even though he drilled it five or six yards past but because of the angle he only has one yard less. and he has a much, much easier lie. he has a straight lie and jason has the ball above his feet downhill lie. nick: well, he hits a natural fade so i think he's going to try and do exactly the shot he played 15 minutes earlier but work it in and try and get a nice hop and skip and bring it left to right around that bunker. peter: he's got a 5-wood so it's a good yardage for him. nick: and the breeze is up.

jim: just needs to make that same pass at it he gave us yesterday here at 18. nick: he might aim a little more right this time. might try and use the wind. peter: this is headed to the right portion of the green. nick: went for the fade again and just -- jim: he actually just watched that putt. as he had a chance to watch his playing companion delaet putt from eagle from over there. nick: what's ernie got, peter? peter: he took out a fairway wood. nick: some like 5 -- 19, 2 -degree thing, irked think. peter: yeah, it's his little kind of 5 hybrid.

nick: interesting decision for ernie. he's been drawing just about every shot so well. peter: you'll tend to draw off this line as well. nick: i was just thinking. and the wind. have to be a little bit careful. oh, he stood up again. ooh, it's coming back. the wind is giving it a nice -- oh! failed by a yard or two. jim: right on the top of a bunker. nick: let's have another look at that swing. look at his spine angle there. you watch when he finishes. when you start to grow -- see, you're growing on it, getting taller. see how he stands up? that changes the swing angle coming down and through. got away with it, though. no problem, bubba. the g-20 is long and forgiving.

hole of the playoff. ernie els, jason dufner, and our aerial coverage is brought to you by directv. and down at this t.p.c. louisiana course, rob arnold, the golf course summit and his crew doing a fabulous job getting this course prepared for a star-studded field we had this week at the zurich. ok, so you've got dufner on the green. then you have ernie. didn't hit his greatest greenside bunker shot last go-round but you have to figure he'll give it a better run at it this time. nick: he'll be perfectly comfortable there. and dufner hole it would putt on the second round. there's ernie's lie. that looks fine. peter: and it's questionable who's away. nick: i think it's dufner,

don't you? peter: i think it is but i'm not sure that ernie isn't going to make a play first. i think ernie is going to go ahead and come up. he's much further in the bunker this time around. this shot is probably a good 10 %, 20% easier than last time. nick: he has to play this like a normal shot landed 10 feet or 10 -- so short of the flag and get it to release. i like the way ernie plays his bunkers. just kind of calculates just the minimums as i call it. simple back, simple through. splash out. the exact amount of sand you need. jim: they recently redid this bunker so there's a lot of sand in it. nick: that's pretty good but it built.

jim: gibson, who was a consultant here on the pete dye design telling us about that bunker. since it's been reworked you'd see shots like that coming up short with that much sand in the bunker. now, on friday, dufner had this putt for eagle. nick: it's exactly the same -- very, very similar line. it's just a bigger version, this one. jim: peter kostis is down there. he's had a chance to look at this too, and again -- remember, he had to wait for graham delaet to come out from way up there. and delaet had a beautiful putt. peter: he did. i'm not sure he was looking at it at the time. he's been looking hard at his

notes. it's definitely going to be going left when it comes over that ridge. i think he'd do well to get it inside of ernie. nick: yeah, he's coming at the flag inside of ernie. it's a 70-footer. jim: got a go. nick: it's on its way. but he's going to be putting again. peter: that's just about the distance he missed in regulation. jim: is he still away, peter? peter: he's still away. nick: well, how about that, eh? both these guys now seriously under pressure.

jim: jason's caddie, kevin dale was plom bobbing with the yardage stick. but he goes to the yardage stick a lot. nick: that's what you do. you do your homework. that's why you play your practice rounds. i believe the guys who pay more attention to the practice rounds -- the guys who really do grind and plot. the breaks on the greens, where to miss the green. how they feed in if you need to play a bump and run. anyway, this to put the pressure on ernie. pushed it again. jim: oh, my. nick: so -- jim: now it's ernie's turn to have a free shot at victory. three-putt par it is for dufner.

this is one of the real beloved figures in golf. so many people have been pulling for ernie to regain winner's status out here. nick: because he's really worked at it. physically, mentally, technically, and now this club. so this is it for the win. jim: oh, whoa! nick: please no. please no. jim: it went past enough to where everybody is taking a deep breath. nick: well, his heart will be racing now.

jim: there you go. they're heading back to the 18th tee one more time. so they've gone par-par in regulation. and in the playoffs. nick: and they're both slightly scarred from that one as well. jim: they both hit the same kind of putt. dufner first, shoving it right. ernie, i would have bet he would make it. we'll be right back with more we'll be right back with more golf action. jim: tonight on cbs begins with

18. now the most silly mistakes now. jim: how do you see it, peter? peter: pressure is pressure, whether you're trying to win your first tournament or whether you're a hall of famer and they both clearly were affected by the pressure there. they need to put it behind them and don't worry about the consequences and get just a little bit more positive with each stroke. nick: yeah. jim: if they match scores here on the second playoff hole, they be not be returning right away to the 18th. they would instead divert over to the 17th hole, where ian baker-finch continues to wait for to it come back his way. maybe it will be decided here. ernie on the tee. nick: same again. try and get it in that perfect spot three times in a row. and i sense -- jim: a little left. oh. nick: uh-oh. that first bunker -- it's out

jim: ernie els, janes dufner trying to decide things here in a playoff at the zurich classic of new orleans. story lines heroics 35-year-old jason dufner, three times a runner-up. number 30 in the world but he's never won. trying to break through for the first time, just six days before his wedding day next week in auburn, alabama. he'll be mar i--- marrying his fiancee amanda. there she is. that would be some way to show up your wedding, wouldn't it? coming fresh off of victory? nick: bring in char grilled oysters from new orleans? peter: he was saying earlier on the range that he might need to win to pay for everything. jim: hank there to our right.

a prior who is going to be in the wedding party. chuck cook will be there, jason's teacher. jason was kind of self-taught until the last four years. the honeymoon will be coming up later in the year. nick: yeah, he's got the players the next week. the honeymoon will be on point a vehicle codea beach. jim: then the other side of the story, ernie els. absent from victory for 25 months. three majors, hall of fame career. trying to get back to augusta. all sorts of things. nick: amazing when you've been there and done it all. as i said earlier, ernie hasn't swallowed his pride. last year he went to all the fedex cup events. scraped on the line to get

through each one and this year the same thing. trying to play his way back into all the right events. jim: peter, what's the best he can do with this? peter: he's got to stay short of 175 yards to play -- lay back of that big bunker. that's a good play. nick: 8 or 9-iron, looks like. peter: yeah, he laid well back, so he's ok. now, jason has 260 yards, which is three yards more than he had in regulation but he has a whole different angle. jim: give us an idea of what yardage ernie will have for his third? peter: i would guess the 130-yard range. jim: now this is 260? peter: 260. nick: he's going to fade or

draw it. looking to the right again. kind of swoop it on the wind. peter: this is a bullet at the right center portion of the green. nick: looks good. wonderful spot. jim: he's been there. just minutes ago. just a little closer this time. dufner on in two. ernie with a wet shot coming up. bench were the wedge shot bench were the wedge shot coming up.

jim: we're back with jason dufner. another eagle putt it will be from long range, having three-putted it the first go-round in the playoff. this time he's probably 15, 20 feet closer. third shot is the next thing to witnesses. ernie elts right here. peter: he's going to have 143 yards left for his third and this becomes a little more difficult with the wind. if he wants to put it in the air he has to make sure it has

spin on it because over is definitely no good. jim: the flagstick is barely moving but the flags above the hospitality tents are moving rather fiercely and they're going from the golfers' right to left. peter: and they're actually hurting a little bit at the moment. nick: you heard ricky say 147 welcome edge. -- back edge. you have to throw it past that downslope. you have 18 paces to the bottom of that downslope. the flag is on 27. so with a short iron you have to land it right in front of it. it will bite. peter: it's going in high on a pretty good line. jim: beautiful pass at that. easy. watch out. right on the edge but
